Wedding Recap by Caterer!

We found ourselves working quite a few weddings this year with our colleagues at Blue Plate Catering.  Not only was their food phenomenal every time, their service to the brides, grooms, and their families was fantastic.  Helping behind the scenes, working hard to make every event be a wonderful experience for our couples.

Take a look at some of the weddings we produced in conjunction with Blue Plate and our colleagues at The Ivy Room, Cafe Brauer, The Chicago History Museum, Stems, Scarlet Petal, and David Rothstein Orchestra.

Tuesday's Tip: It's Your Wedding, Put Your Stamp on It!

I see so many weddings a year and every wedding seems to always have the same if not similar elements at each one.  There is always some sort of ceremony (which that is what makes it a wedding and not just a party!), some sort of cocktail reception or at least cocktails, a dinner of some sorts whether it is served on a plate, a station, or a tray, and dessert because everyone loves dessert!

A couple who's wedding I recently did, completely made their wedding their own.  They were considered by some, non-traditional, however, they were married in a church and took what is normally known for a traditional venue, Cafe Brauer, and turned it into a fun cocktail party with heavy food stations catered by Entertaining Company.  We had candles suspended from the ceiling by Frost Lighting, while Kloeckner's Florists turned some staple pieces to give the room some WOW!  The Bradley Young Orchestra kept the bride, groom, and all dancing on the dance floor.

We took a traditional space and turned it into a fun cocktail style area where guests wandered throughout the space, had cocktails, danced, and had fun!  We "sprinkled" wedding items in through the night, like a cake cutting, Father of the Bride toast, first dance, and so on!  It was truly magical. Having a fun time was the goal and no matter where they were going to be, they want to make sure that was going to be the case.  Here's a sneak peak at what we did!

The room was glowing and the bride & groom & family were singing with the band, on stage at the end of the night.  This was truly a FUN celebration!

Wedding Recap @ Harold Washington Library with Harry Caray's

One of the most recent weddings we had took place at the infamous, Harold Washington Library.  This a grand and historic venue that we at Liven It Up Events love to work at!  Misha Newgren, Senior Planner, had the pleasure of working with Gabi from Harry Caray's who was the caterer and created a great menu for a fun crowd of folks.  Along with them, the teams from Art of Imagination & Cattleya Designs were on board to help create a great feel and ambiance in the room.  In this post, there are just a couple of the room shots we were able to snap!

Tuesday's Tip: Having a Sushi Station at a Party Can be Fun!

Fun Sushi Station

One of my favorite things to do at any event is a sushi station.  This is still a fun way for your guests to interact with each other, and it's always a huge hit!  There are so many variations on how to create a sushi station, but the key is to hire a professional restaurant that cannot only be creative but can also deliver AMAZING sushi.  One of my favorite local spots in Chicago is Thalia Spice.  I worked with Thalia on may events and their sushi is always a hit!  Their restaurant is also a great spot for dinner!

To lean more about how to have Thalia in action at your next event or to make dinner reservations with them, visit their website at www.thaliaspice.com

Thalia Spice is also one our sponsors for Art of Home, 2012, at the Zhou B. Arts Center.  To learn more or purchase your tickets, visit the Lakeside Community Development Website here!

Wedding Recap @ A New Leaf

One of my favorite wedding venues in Chicago is A New Leaf.  Those longing for a wedding there in 2013, keep watching.  We have our fingers crossed they they will start booking soon!

This wedding just happened to be one that we did there this year.  It was so great to work with Briana there, along with Rachel from J and L Catering, reception music by Toast & Jam Deejays and ceremony music by Dolce Strings.  There were some many family friends that also became involved with the wedding as the bride's family acted as make-up and hair artists and uncle officiated the wedding!  It was really a great day and the snap shots I got were pretty AMAZING!  Take a look and how fabulous the wedding was!

The Chuppah for this wedding was STUNNING!

We used the Storefront for the dinner as well as the mezzanine!

The garden was a perfect place for cocktails!

This was the centerpiece for the buffet & bar.  Pretty amazing!

Tuesday's Tip: Hire a Professional, Experienced & Personable Photographer!

Over this past weekend, I had the privilege working with Ingrid Bonne-Goggine with Ingrid Bonne Photography, a local photographer in Chicago. Here's why I am writing this post.  Ingrid came right into the room, got herself organized, started shooting some details as well as some candid shots.  When the bride came into the room, you could see her enthusiasm burst through at how genuinely excited she was to see the bride and how happy she was to be a part of her special day!

Here's a shot of Ingrid photographing the couple!

Throughout the day, Ingrid really help keep everything moving.  She was making sure the bride was enjoying herself but still keeping the bridal party of 14 plus the bride & groom on time!  Not always an easy task!

What really made the day memorable for me is when she was shooting the bride and groom for the first time, she kept telling them how cute they were or how adorable they were and she meant it!  It made them feel good and helped make their day that much more enjoyable!

Tuesday's Tip:  Hire a professional pro who is seasoned enough to know how to have a balance of fun and can get the shots take and make you feel great about you and your boo!  Not an easy task, but Ingrid is just one of those AMAZING photographers that can do just that!

Wedding Recap @ The Crystal Gardens

One of the weddings we had this year was custom built for this couple.  We had everything from the lamp & candelabra centerpieces made to the linens.   Take a look at how Stefani's Catering, Jesse with Event Creative, Maggie Speaks, Sarah & Ryan with Miller + Miller Photography and everyone else that made this wedding possible!

This was also the last wedding I worked with my friend and colleague Sheree Figler with Tablescapes.  Sheree was a gift to the Chicago Wedding Industry, a talented designer, and a perfectionist.  I miss her and am thankful we had the opportunity to go out with a bang.  She had the linens custom made for this wedding because she knew it was necessary!
